Also called nano-influencer
A micro-influencer is a creator with a small but highly engaged audience, usually placed somewhere between 1,000 and 100,000 followers depending on who is counting.
The band has no agreed boundaries, which is worth stating plainly because every agency defines it to suit its inventory. What is consistent is the pattern behind the label: engagement rate tends to fall as follower count rises, so smaller accounts often deliver more interactions per follower and a more specific audience.
For brands the appeal is cost and precision. Ten micro-influencers in one niche cost less than one macro account and produce more varied creative, more total comments, and audiences that overlap less than expected.
For the creator, the practical implication is that a small audience is sellable much earlier than most people assume.
In practice
A brand running one 300,000-follower post versus fifteen 15,000-follower posts usually gets more measurable sales from the fifteen.
Common mistake
Waiting to hit an arbitrary follower milestone before approaching brands. Engaged niche audiences are commercially viable well below 10,000.
