Link in bio

Also called bio link, link-in-bio page

A link in bio is a single web page that collects all the links a creator wants to share, used because most social platforms allow only one clickable URL in a profile.

Instagram, TikTok and X each allow one clickable link in a profile. A link in bio page solves that constraint: the profile points to one URL, and that URL holds everything else — the shop, the latest video, the booking form, the newsletter sign-up.

The term describes a placement before it describes a product. "Put it in my link in bio" is an instruction about where a URL lives, which is why the phrase survived even as the pages themselves grew from plain link lists into full micro-sites with checkout, scheduling and email capture.

What separates a link in bio from a normal website is the traffic pattern. Visitors arrive from a social profile, on a phone, with a specific intention formed seconds earlier by a post they just watched. They rarely browse. A page that works answers the intention within the first screen and lets the visitor act without a second decision.

In practice

A ceramicist posts a bowl on Instagram. The caption says "link in bio". The page opens on a photo of that exact bowl, its price, and a Buy button — not on a menu of six categories.

Common mistake

Treating the page as a sitemap. Every extra link splits attention: a page with twelve options routinely converts worse than the same page with three, because the visitor's intent was formed by one post, not twelve.
