Welcome sequence

Also called onboarding sequence, welcome series

A welcome sequence is the automated series of emails a new subscriber receives immediately after signing up.

It is the highest-attention moment a list ever has. A new subscriber just chose you, deliberately, seconds ago — engagement across a welcome sequence typically runs far above anything sent later.

Its job is to deliver what was promised, establish what to expect, and let people act while interest is at its peak. Sequences that spend three emails on biography before offering anything waste the window.

Because it is automated, it is the only email you write once and send forever, which makes it the highest-return writing on the list.

In practice

A three-email sequence — the promised file, the story behind the work, then one relevant offer — converts a share of new subscribers that no later broadcast matches.

Common mistake

Having no sequence. Subscribers who hear nothing for three weeks have forgotten signing up, and the first broadcast reads as unsolicited.
