Also called bump offer
An order bump is a small optional add-on offered inside the checkout itself, accepted with a single tick.
What distinguishes a bump from an upsell is friction: it happens on the page the buyer is already on, adds to the same payment, and requires one click rather than a new decision flow.
Price is the lever. A bump priced at a small fraction of the main item is bought almost reflexively; priced near the main item it becomes a real decision and depresses the whole checkout.
It must be genuinely related. An unrelated bump reads as an attempt to inflate the basket and costs trust at the worst possible moment.
In practice
A €7 printable checklist ticked at checkout by a third of buyers of a €39 pack adds meaningfully to average order value with no extra traffic.
Common mistake
Bumping something expensive. Above roughly a quarter of the main price it stops being reflexive and starts causing hesitation at payment.
