A vanity URL is a short, readable, memorable web address chosen for how it reads rather than for how a system generated it.
Vanity URLs exist because addresses are read as well as clicked. They appear in bios, on business cards, in podcast credits and spoken aloud, and in all of those contexts length and pronounceability decide whether they survive the journey.
They also carry trust. A readable address suggests a deliberate owner; a long machine-generated one with tracking parameters reads as forwarded, disposable or affiliate.
Keeping them stable matters more than choosing them perfectly. A vanity URL's value comes from being repeated over years.
In practice
`taap.bio/marie` can be read out on a podcast and typed correctly from memory; a 60-character URL with a query string cannot.
Common mistake
Building vanity URLs on a link shortener you do not control. If the service closes, every printed and spoken reference dies with it.
