Also called content bucket
A content pillar is one of the few recurring themes a creator publishes on, chosen so the whole output reads as coherent.
Pillars solve two problems at once. For the audience they answer "what is this account about", which is what makes following a decision rather than an impulse. For the creator they remove the blank page, because ideas are generated within a theme rather than from nothing.
Three to five is the working range. Fewer becomes repetitive; more stops being a structure and becomes a list of everything you have ever posted.
Platforms also benefit: consistent subject matter makes an account easier to classify and to recommend to the right people.
In practice
A photographer publishing on gear, editing, client stories and pricing has four pillars — every idea belongs to one, and the account reads as one thing.
Common mistake
Adding a pillar for every new interest. A fifth and sixth theme dilutes the reason people followed for the first.
