Drop

Also called product drop, release

A drop is a release made available at an announced moment, often in limited quantity or for a limited time.

The mechanism converts a purchase decision into an event with a deadline. Without one, buying can always happen later, and later frequently means never — deadlines are what convert intent into action.

Drops concentrate attention, which suits audiences that follow a creator rather than search for a product. They also concentrate revenue into a few days, which is a cash-flow pattern that needs planning around.

Scarcity has to be real. Announced limits that quietly do not apply are noticed, and the next drop is met with the assumption that the deadline is decorative.

In practice

Announcing a preset pack for one week, then genuinely closing it, produces a revenue spike that permanent availability at the same price does not.

Common mistake

Manufacturing false scarcity. A countdown that resets on refresh is visible to anyone who looks, and it costs the trust the next drop depends on.
